Atlanta native Mike Germon’s collages look to have been found in an old drawer in which they did not belong. His pieces include elements that reference scientific themes ranging from astronomy and biology to theoretical physics while addressing topics of mythology, science fiction, and magic. Having earned his BFA in Art (digital media) from The University of Georgia in 2005, Germon has since worked as a props person in the film industry while showing his art around Atlanta, including three solo exhibitions and numerous group shows (RIP Beep Beep Gallery). Mike Germon sees collage as a vehicle for combining and juxtaposing aspects of different cultures, philosophies, and practices to create new narratives. This idea expands beyond the physical act of cutting and reassembling paper elements into more conceptual applications, such as a ouija board “for scientific purposes” with a periodic table instead of an alphabet.
